Senior Associate Software Engineer/Software Engineer - Site Reliability and DevOps (US Federal)

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and optimize Workday in the U.S. Federal regions, working closely with the core team and commercial software engineering teams responsible for the platform.
• Partner with the Federal Cyber Defense team to oversee security operations, governance, risk, compliance, and platform security health.
• Develop and maintain deployment tools and analytics to support flexible, cost-effective, and company-wide deployments.
• Collaborate across teams to ensure solutions are robust, scalable, and efficient.
• Design, develop, analyze, acquire, install, modify, and support operating systems, deployments, databases, utilities, and network-related tools.
• Conduct programming activities including coding, debugging, documentation, and report generation to enhance deployment flexibility.
• Manage deployment of Workday technology stack on air-gapped cloud environments and develop proprietary tools.

Requirements

• 4+ years in deploying large-scale, complex applications, with 3+ years in cloud-based deployments on AWS or GCP.
• 2+ years experience with automation tools and languages, including Ansible, Python, Go, Chef, and Puppet; proficient in CI/CD, build management, and monitoring.
• 2+ years experience with networks, servers, storage, and operating systems in cloud environments; skilled in deployment orchestration and automation frameworks.
• Hands-on experience with infrastructure automation tools like Chef, Puppet, and Ansible.
• 2+ years of SRE/DevOps experience in a distributed systems environment.
• Proven experience in managing and fixing distributed systems (AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, Docker).
• Experience with Linux and scripting languages such as Bash or Shell.
• Demonstrated ability with at least one of (GoLang, Python, Ruby), preferably GoLang.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• Experience with developing orchestration and automation frameworks using Ansible and Jenkins in cloud deployments.
• Strong network analysis and troubleshooting skills, including use of tools like tcpdump.
• Proficient in Unix/Linux environments with strong Python scripting expertise.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum practices, including sprint planning and daily stand-ups using Jira.

Nice to Have

• Experience with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker, Kubernetes, Helm.
• Knowledge of security operations, governance, and compliance in cloud environments.
• Experience working in federal or highly secure environments.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
