About the Role

The Senior Editor - Strategy & Corporate Finance will join the Global Publishing team within McKinsey's Reach & Engagement function. The role involves supporting authors to develop impactful editorial products, managing editorial publications and programs, and working with senior consultants and industry experts to create content on topics such as strategy and corporate finance. The position requires engaging and inspiring colleagues, ensuring content quality and alignment with firm standards, and contributing to McKinsey's publishing objectives across digital and print platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage and inspire colleagues through thought partnership and leadership skills to advance the firm's publishing objectives.
  • Manage editorial publications and programs, coordinating with relevant McKinsey publishing groups and stakeholders to ensure projects are completed, approved, produced, and published on time.
  • Act as a thought partner and service provider (e.g., line editor) working with McKinsey authors to develop publishing strategies that support firm objectives.
  • Develop persuasive storylines and write compelling drafts on business topics related to strategy and corporate finance, including M&A, portfolio strategy, CEO excellence, board services, innovation, geopolitics, and risk management.
  • Shape content into various editorial products such as articles, white papers, reports, blog posts, podcasts, and videos in collaboration with authors and stakeholders.
  • Review and edit content to ensure consistency of voice, tone, style, and adherence to firm style and risk guidelines, providing advisory support to authors.
  • Communicate clearly with internal and external teams and McKinsey leadership to support an increasing volume of editorial projects.
  • Lead projects or workstreams independently or with a team, staying informed on business news, trends, and firm research to ensure content relevance.
  • Support entry-level and junior editors' development and contribute to additional ad hoc editorial projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or University degree; an advanced degree in journalism is a plus.
  • Experience in business writing and editing, including digital publishing, preferably for an English-language business publication or professional-services firm.
  • Deep understanding of global business trends and detailed knowledge of strategy and corporate finance.
  • Data literacy and familiarity with audience engagement tools such as SEO and social media.
  • Strong mastery of Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint) and team collaboration tools (SharePoint, Slack, Zoom).
  • Proficiency and fluency in verbal and written English; other language skills are a plus.
  • Excellent editorial skills, judgment, and business literacy, with the ability to quickly absorb complex ideas and produce accessible copy.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written, presentation).
  • Confidence in interacting with senior staff and subject-matter experts, with the ability to achieve consensus among multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to challenge content based on industry knowledge.
  • Exceptional project management and organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects, manage complex processes, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently in a low-structure environment, deal with ambiguity, and proactively seek guidance when needed.

  • Advanced degree in journalism.
  • Other language skills beyond English.
