About the Role

As a Senior Engineering Manager within Sam's Tech, you'll be leading the team responsible for the development and deployment of our Data Platform Infrastructure. This team of software engineers provides the foundational "lakehouse" on which Sam's data science, analytics, and reporting is built upon. Providing a stable, secure, and performant platform is key to the future success of our business initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and Mentor: Oversee a team of talented engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and career development opportunities
Technical Leadership: Drive the design, development, and implementation of cloud-based lakehouse solutions, including modernizing data processing environments, implementing monitoring, alerting, reporting, automating routine tasks, and improving operational efficiency
Enhance system performance, scalability, and availability
Customer Focus: Prioritize end-user experience in all aspects of platform development
Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the team
Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams (product management, engineering, etc) to achieve shared goals
Stay abreast of the latest technologies and industry best practices in data platforms, orchestration, and visualization/consumption tools

Requirements

Proven experience as a Senior Software Engineering Manager or a similar leadership role related to the data platform space
Strong technical expertise in cloud computing platforms (Azure, GCP, AWS), Kubernetes
Experience with large-scale data processing using Spark
Experience with Google Cloud data platform offerings
Experience with Databricks and/or Dataproc
Experience with data analysis and visualization
Knowledge of agile development methodologies
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
Passion for customer experience and a strong drive to exceed expectations
Minimum of a bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years' experience in software engineering or related area, or 7 years' experience in software engineering or related area
At least 2 years of supervisory experience

Nice to Have

Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area
Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility
Knowledge of accessibility best practices and supporting an inclusive culture

Qualifications

Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years' experience in software engineering or related area
Option 2: 7 years' experience in software engineering or related area
