About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join a collaborative, fast-paced team supporting the Meteorology and Oceanography (METOC) Micro-Services Enterprise - Mission Planning (MOµSE-MP) program. This effort is part of the Next Generation Mission Planning Enterprise, focused on delivering advanced environmental intelligence to Navy and Air Force aviation mission planners. Working within a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment, you will contribute to the development of microservices and NPM packages that provide accurate, timely, and mission-relevant METOC data. The role is highly collaborative, involving multiple development teams across Agile Release Trains (ARTs) and requires both strong technical capability and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, and debug advanced software applications and systems, incorporating logical and mathematical solutions.
Collaborate with engineers, analysts, and stakeholders to define and analyze system capabilities, user needs, and performance requirements.
Develop and maintain software solutions including compilers, utility programs, and operating systems; ensure software standards and compliance are met.
Lead and support engineering tasks focused on 2D and 3D visualizations of METOC forecasts and observations from multiple authoritative weather data providers.
Participate in full-stack development activities supporting UI/UX design, backend services, and API integration.
Contribute to and improve testing frameworks.
Create and maintain regression test plans.
Develop JUnit test cases.
Monitor pull requests and integration workflows.
Support CI/CD best practices and DevSecOps pipelines.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams within and across ARTs, ensuring shared understanding of tasking and resolving technical issues efficiently.

Requirements

BS degree + 8 years, MS + 6 years, or PhD + 3 years of experience in software engineering or a related field.
Proven experience in Agile software development teams (SAFe experience strongly preferred).
Experience with Java, Tomcat, Spring Boot, React, Node.js, JavaScript.
Must be able to obtain a DOD Secret clearance.
Must be able to live in the Stennis Space Center metro area and work in the office when required.

Qualifications

Educational qualifications as specified: BS, MS, or PhD in a related field.
Experience working within SAFe Agile environments.
Technical proficiency with Java, Spring Boot, React, Node.js, JavaScript.
