About the Role

The Senior Software Engineer, Acuity Scheduling at Squarespace is responsible for developing and maintaining features within the Acuity Scheduling platform, a product that helps appointment-based businesses automate client bookings, cancellations, reminders, and payments. The role involves working within the Product Engineering teams to build seamless, powerful experiences for customers, focusing on full-stack contributions using PHP and React. The position reports to an Engineering Team Manager and is based at the company's NYC headquarters with a hybrid work schedule.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop new features for Acuity Scheduling, a PHP and React application, with a focus on full-stack contributions
  • Write server-side production code for high-volume, available applications, develop rapid prototypes for new features, and guide technical designs forward
  • Scale and improve the performance of the application and database
  • Collaborate with engineers, product, design, analytics, and customer operations to understand the purpose of the features being built
  • Practice and mentor disciplined software engineering practices such as automated testing, code reviews, and writing elegant, readable code

Requirements

  • 5+ years of large-scale full-stack software development experience using PHP, Java, Python, Go, or another object-oriented language, with a strong emphasis on backend systems and APIs
  • Experience developing customer-facing frontend user interfaces using React or a comparable JavaScript framework, with practical production usage
  • A sincere commitment to creating readable code and an understanding of database schema design, caching, and scalability
  • A solid foundation in computer science, including data structures, algorithms, and software design practices
  • A degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent industry experience

Nice to Have

  • Experience with high-volume, scalable web applications
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and cloud infrastructure
  • Experience mentoring or leading engineering teams
