About the Role

Join the future of news at The Washington Post as a Senior Software Engineer in the Ad Engineering and Monetization team. The role involves developing innovative software to maximize revenue through digital advertising, working across diverse projects such as custom ad experiences, content management platforms, AI-driven targeting software, and operational tools. The team operates in a dynamic environment navigating changes in the digital advertising and publishing ecosystem, contributing to funding high-quality journalism.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in all stages of software development, including brainstorming, prototyping, designing, implementing, testing, and supporting applications.
  • Establish and enforce engineering best practices and coding standards across various projects.
  • Work directly with Product Managers, Designers, Advertising Operations, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into highly performant applications.
  • Architect, build, and deploy applications on AWS.
  • Occasionally influence other teams to accept technology processes or products, requiring detailed explanations or interpretations.
  • Communicate with internal teams and external parties such as customers and vendors.

Requirements

  • 5+ years experience building and delivering highly-performant, customer-facing applications.
  • Proficiency in modern JavaScript development principles.
  • Hands-on experience developing, deploying, and maintaining systems using AWS services such as ECS, EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda.
  • Experience with DevOps technologies like Docker and CI/CD systems such as Jenkins and AWS CodePipeline.
  • Experience developing in the digital advertising ecosystem using Prebid, Google Ad Manager, and Identify platforms.
  • Experience writing unit tests and integration tests to ensure code quality.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with front-end and back-end technologies.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with non-technical colleagues.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Qualifications

  • Experience with deploying and maintaining systems on AWS.
  • Proficiency in JavaScript development.
  • Experience with digital advertising tools such as Google Ad Manager and Prebid.
