About the Role

The Senior Software Engineer will be part of Cisco's SDWAN Platform Crypto Security Engineering team, responsible for securing the SDWAN fabric at a global scale. The role involves working on advanced security technologies such as IPSec, TLS/dTLS, PQC, and crypto hardware acceleration, contributing to building a highly scalable, distributed, and intelligent network system that provides secure connectivity across cloud, on-premise, and SaaS environments. The position offers an opportunity to work on ground-breaking security solutions within a leading technology company committed to innovation and inclusivity.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate closely with Product Managers and technical leaders on designing and implementing IPsec solutions for Cisco's routing products.
Distill complex problems and propose simple, elegant solutions, taking responsibility for the performance and results of the engineering team.
Understand and contribute to requirements, write functional and design specifications, showcase technical leadership, and drive high-quality execution across teams.
Contribute to the product roadmap through innovations and cross-team discussions.
Investigate and resolve complex customer issues with empathy and attention to detail.
Help raise the quality standards to prevent customer issues in an agile and incremental development environment.

Requirements

7+ years of experience or a Bachelor's degree with relevant experience in computer science or related technical fields involving coding, building multi-threaded and distributed backend systems.
4+ years of programming experience in C/C++ and Python, with skills in developing algorithms using efficient data structures, debugging, and troubleshooting under Linux.
Experience working extensively with OpenSSL, Intel QAT, and IPsec open-source software.

Nice to Have

Experience with OS, database internals, search, filesystems, inter-process messaging, networking, and security concepts.
Proven experience developing IPsec technologies and data-plane IPsec packet processing.
Experience with data plane development for network processors, crypto, and stateful packet processing.
Knowledge of cloud and container technologies.
Good understanding of network security domains and deployment scenarios.

Qualifications

Educational background in computer science or related fields, with relevant certifications preferred.
Experience with multi-threaded, distributed backend systems, and security technologies.
