About the Role

The Toast Retail team is pioneering how Toast serves businesses beyond the restaurant space. We're focused on building powerful, intuitive tools that meet the unique needs of modern retailers - inventory management, supplier relationships, purchase orders, and more. As a team, we operate like a startup within Toast, balancing greenfield development with the scale of a mature platform. We're also building with AI to speed up our workflows, and incorporating AI into the product as well.

Key Responsibilities

Architect and implement modern, high-quality frontend experiences.
Collaborate deeply with Product and Design to craft user-centric solutions tailored to the retail space.
Mentor teammates, contribute to technical decisions, and help shape a strong engineering culture.
Continuously improve UI systems and patterns, enabling rapid development of scalable features.
Stay curious, explore emerging technologies, and find new ways to elevate the Toast Retail experience.

Requirements

5+ years of experience building modern web applications, with a strong frontend focus.
Strong proficiency with React, TypeScript, and web standards (HTML5, CSS3).
Solid understanding of component architecture, state management, and design systems.
Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and shipping user-facing features.
Familiarity with REST APIs, GraphQL, and testing frameworks (Jest, Playwright, etc.).
Passion for clean, maintainable code.
Comfortable working in a fast-moving team, balancing quality and speed.

Nice to Have

Experience in Retail software, or designing systems for new customer verticals.

Qualifications
