About the Role

The Senior Software Engineer, Services Engineering at Pega is responsible for designing, developing, deploying, and operating core runtime services with a focus on distributed/cloud computing, concurrency, and performance for the cloud native runtime engine and its services. The role involves engaging with internal stakeholders, platform design and prototyping, refining high-level business problems into technical solutions, and mentoring new team members. The position is based in Waltham, MA, with telecommuting options up to 3 days per week.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, deploy, and operate core runtime services with a focus on distributed/cloud computing, concurrency, and performance.
Engage and communicate with internal stakeholders including cloud operations and applications teams.
Participate in platform level design and prototyping to identify and define future functionalities.
Refine, clarify, and translate high-level platform business domain problems into technical solutions and architecture.
Continuously improve, refine, and refactor the code base and configuration tools.
Mentor new team members or interns as part of onboarding.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or Master's degree with 2 years of experience.
5 years of experience in software development involving object-oriented design, debugging, unit testing, and continuous integration (or 2 years with a Master's degree).
Experience with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and algorithms and data structures.
2 years of experience with enterprise software development in Kotlin or Core Java.
Experience working on a Scrum team.
Knowledge of distributed systems concepts including security, scalability, resiliency, and consistency.
Must live within normal commuting distance of Waltham, MA.

Qualifications
