Our security team supports Slack's mission to make people's working lives more secure by protecting infrastructure, operations, and customer data. Slack Security Engineering is hiring a curious Senior Staff level blue team software engineer to drive threat detection, logging, and remediation efforts, working on developing detection features, scaling infrastructure, and collaborating across teams.

Key Responsibilities

Identify and develop new features and a roadmap to augment existing tools to protect Slack's production infrastructure and improve security, productivity, and user experience.
Detect threats and help Slack be more secure.
Help to develop eBPF tooling and author detections therein.
Creatively scale and operate the infrastructure and tools that handle millions of events per second.
Respond in the on-call rotation to fix services and investigate potential threats.

Requirements

Curiosity and creativity, with a desire to understand why something happened, not just that it happened.
A desire to empower coworkers and approach engineering problems as an art form.
Motivation to solve problems with sustainable solutions, not quick patches, and a mindset that on-call should not be a burden.
Eagerness to collaborate across the company and work with the broader engineering team.
Broad exposure to security disciplines and understanding of core security concepts such as MFA, ZeroTrust, and managing secrets or tokens.

Nice to Have

AWS proficiency; existing experience preferred but can be taught.
Experience with Elasticsearch / Kibana and metrics analysis.
Experience with Google Chronicle/SecOps SIEM.

Qualifications

Experience with security tooling, threat detection, and incident response.
Experience with programming in Go and Python.
Experience scaling infrastructure handling large volumes of events.
