About the Role

The Software Development Engineering Manager at Workday is responsible for leading a team of software development and QA engineers within the Security Products organization, specifically focusing on building a secure, scalable, high-performance access management platform. The role involves coaching, mentoring, and supporting team members, translating business strategies into practical objectives, planning releases, and driving process improvements. This position is integral to delivering high-quality security framework products that empower customers and ecosystem application teams, contributing to Workday's culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coaching, mentoring and supporting direct report staff in both technical and non-technical issues. Ensure high productivity of team members. Provide support for their career growth and personal development.
  • Lead a team of dynamic software development/QA engineers building security framework products that empower customers as well as all ecosystem application teams at Workday.
  • Understand business strategy and goals, translating those into practical objectives and key results.
  • Plan releases and schedule development. Provide estimates and initial assessment for proposed development, testing, and release tasks. Track and report progress of projects against key achievements. Balance resources with task assignments. Ensure timely and high quality delivery of the project.
  • Work closely with multi-functional teams towards operational excellence.
  • Keep feature partners updated throughout the development cycle. Provide liaison with relevant parties, including product management, QA, other development teams, production, and product support, to facilitate the release process. Handle development related customer critical issues when needed.
  • Drive process improvement within a development organization. Institute and adopt the best engineering practices.

Requirements

  • 2+ years experience leading and managing engineering teams.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated ability to design and implement enterprise software, components, frameworks, web applications.
  • Experience of delivering high quality software products and value non-functional requirements (e.g., security, performance, testing).
  • Experience building a strong team and the ability to empower and inspire team members.
  • Proven track record to collaborate within and across teams.
  • Experience with testing APIs through tools such as POSTMAN, CURL, or SoapUI.
  • Exposure to microservices technologies like Docker/Kubernetes, CI/CD tools like Jenkins, cloud platform like Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience working in authentication and authorization areas such as OAuth, SSO, x509, JWT, Identity and Access Management (IAM).
  • Experience promoting 'shift left' and microservices design.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with microservices technologies like Docker/Kubernetes.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins.
  • Experience working with cloud platforms like AWS.
  • Knowledge of authentication and authorization protocols such as OAuth, SSO, x509, JWT, IAM.
