About the Role

We are seeking an experienced SQL Server Database Administrator with deep expertise in enterprise-scale environments to help optimize and stabilize our case management system. The role involves assessing, optimizing, and troubleshooting an existing SQL Server environment supporting approximately 100 concurrent users, with a focus on improving replication performance, configuration, and overall database efficiency. This is a contract/consulting engagement aimed at modernizing and stabilizing a mission-critical system.

Key Responsibilities

Assess and optimize an existing SQL Server environment supporting approximately 100 concurrent users.
Review and improve merge replication between the primary SQL Server and a secondary server supporting international users.
Troubleshoot replication lag, errors, and delays impacting real-time updates.
Address issues where PowerBuilder applications do not receive correct identity keys after inserts or updates.
Advise on database configuration, CPU requirements, and potential hardware upgrades to achieve near real-time replication with updates every 60 seconds.
Recommend strategies to improve overall performance and efficiency of the database architecture.

Requirements

20+ years working with SQL Server in enterprise environments.
Strong experience with merge replication design, configuration, and troubleshooting.
Ability to analyze application workflows and optimize database interactions.
Familiarity with PowerBuilder integration is a plus.
Experience with Microsoft SQL, Microsoft SQL Server, MS SQL Server, and Database Administration.

Nice to Have

Familiarity with PowerBuilder integration.

Qualifications

Experience with enterprise-scale SQL Server environments.
Proven expertise in merge replication design, configuration, and troubleshooting.
Strong analytical skills for application workflow and database interaction optimization.
