About the Role

The Software Engineer (API Development) at Regions Financial Corporation is responsible for overseeing application development, modification, and maintenance within the Technology department. The role involves designing, deploying, and testing APIs and applications, ensuring system performance, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve seamless integration and secure solutions. This position is based on-site in various locations including Birmingham, AL, Nashville, TN, Atlanta, GA, or Charlotte, NC, and emphasizes results, quality, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Assists with the development and installation of new hardware and software
Installs and configures systems and other software
Tests installed software for malfunction detection
Identifies and resolves business systems issues
Designs and deploys new applications and enhancements to existing applications, software, and operation systems
Measures effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems
Develops and implements strategies to improve systems
Monitors and tests system performance
Creates robust and scalable APIs using frameworks and technologies such as .Net, C#, Kubernetes, and Openshift, focusing on Restful APIs
Works closely with frontend and backend developers, product managers, and stakeholders to define API requirements
Implements and maintains secure authentication and authorization mechanisms (OAuth, JWT, etc.)
Creates and maintains API documentation including usage examples and error handling
Develops and executes test plans to ensure API functionality, performance, and security
Keeps updated with latest API trends, technologies, and standards like GraphQL

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
Three (3) years of experience
Ability to collaborate with programmers, developers, and other technology professionals
Ability to conduct system analysis to detect performance issues
Ability to develop and implement technology solutions to resolve technical challenges
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Intermediate executional capabilities
Knowledge of software testing techniques, code optimization, and debugging
Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Understanding of software structures, hardware, and computing systems
Proficiency in C# programming
Experience with API management platforms (e.g., Mulesoft) is a nice-to-have

Nice to Have

Experience with API management platforms such as Mulesoft
Knowledge of emerging API standards like GraphQL

Qualifications

Educational background in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
Experience level of at least 3 years in relevant roles
