Our Big Data Platform Services team is focused on architecting, delivering, and operating large-scale data platforms across data centers and public clouds, at web scale. We are seeking software engineers and leads with experience in building and owning distributed services to contribute to this vision.

Key Responsibilities

Work with large-scale distributed systems technologies such as Phoenix, HBase, MapReduce, Yarn, Kafka, Spark, Hive, Presto, or equivalent on a modern containerized deployment stack.
Contribute to open source projects by collaborating with teams that have PMCs and committers on various Apache projects.
Build database services on cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or other public cloud substrates.
Design, develop, debug, and operate resilient distributed systems across thousands of compute nodes in multiple data centers.
Participate in the team's on-call rotation to address complex problems in real-time and ensure services are operational and highly available.

Requirements

A related technical degree.
7+ years of backend software development experience.
Deep knowledge of programming languages such as Java, C++, and/or Python.
Experience owning and operating multiple instances of critical services.
Experience with Agile development methodology and Test Driven Development.
Experience using telemetry and metrics to drive operational excellence.
Strong understanding of CAP theorem, consistency models, Paxos, Raft, and Zookeeper.

Nice to Have

Experience building and operating distributed systems at scale.
Contributions to open source projects or Apache projects.
Experience with cloud-based database services.
