Job Description

About the Role

We are looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented engineer to join our Camera and Sensor Software team, with a demonstrated experience with low-level development of camera drivers, sensor integration, and HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer) components. This position plays a critical role in bringing up camera hardware, enabling sensor functionality, and ensuring seamless end-to-end imaging performance on embedded platforms for MR devices. As part of the team, you will work closely with silicon vendors, board design engineers, and platform teams to bring up and debug camera sensors (such as image sensors, time-of-flight sensors, IR sensors, etc.) at the register and protocol level (I2C, MIPI CSI). You will develop and maintain kernel-mode device drivers for camera and imaging sensors, ensuring proper initialization, calibration, power sequencing, and performance. You will also be responsible for implementing and extending the Camera HAL, bridging the gap between low-level hardware drivers and higher-level frameworks such as Android Camera API. This is a hands-on engineering role that offers the opportunity to work on the camera stack which is key to MR devices & experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work on bringing up and debugging camera sensors at the register and protocol level (I2C, MIPI CSI).
  • Develop and maintain kernel-mode device drivers for camera and imaging sensors, ensuring proper initialization, calibration, power sequencing, and performance.
  • Implement and extend the Camera HAL, bridging the gap between low-level hardware drivers and higher-level frameworks such as Android Camera API.
  • Collaborate with silicon vendors, board design engineers, and platform teams to enable sensor functionality and optimize imaging performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7+ years of software development experience in industry settings or PhD with 4+ years of experience.
  • 3+ years relevant camera software engineering experience in industry settings.
  • Experience developing and debugging in C/C++.
  • Experience leading large or complex projects, defined goals, and delivering milestones by leading teams.
  • Experience with Qualcomm, MediaTek, or NVIDIA Jetson camera stack and SoC-specific drivers.
  • Embedded, Linux kernel development, and device driver programming experience.
  • Understanding and experience working with Camera HALs, and camera service layers.
  • Knowledge of image signal processing pipelines and tuning workflows (e.g., Auto Exposure, Auto Focus, Auto White Balance).
  • Solid understanding of embedded hardware debugging, register-level programming, and low-level interfaces (I2C, SPI, GPIO, clocks).
  • Hands-on expertise with camera sensor bring-up, including Inter-Integrated Circuit configuration and Camera Serial Interface.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with image signal processing pipelines and tuning workflows.
  • Familiarity with camera sensor bring-up and low-level hardware debugging.
