Job Description

About the Role

As a Software Engineer for Airborne Systems at General Dynamics Mission Systems, you'll be a member of a cross functional team responsible for airborne computers that process and display mission data in the cockpit, crypto products for identifying friendly aircraft, and weapon control systems that enable the launch and control of precision guided weapons. The role involves working to ensure the world's most advanced aircraft maintain air superiority and information dominance, with opportunities for continuous learning and development in a research-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of airborne computer systems that process and display mission data in the cockpit.
  • Work on crypto products for identifying friendly aircraft.
  • Develop weapon control systems that enable the launch and control of precision guided weapons.
  • Collaborate within a cross functional team to ensure system performance and reliability.
  • Engage in software development lifecycle activities, including design, implementation, testing, and integration.

Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field, or a Master's degree with 2+ years of job-related experience.
  • Experience with embedded C/C++ and Linux.
  • Knowledge of general programming principles and optimization strategies.
  • Solid background in embedded software development, Linux, RTOS, and HW/SW integration.
  • Willingness to dig into hardware specifications and leverage hardware interfaces for low-level software solutions.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.

Nice to Have

  • Strong experience with embedded C/C++.
  • Experience with Linux.
  • Software Development Leadership experience.
  • Knowledge of Assembly, Python, Rust, or other programming languages.
  • Experience with DO-178 compliant software engineering life-cycle.
  • Leadership experience in software management, planning, and resource scheduling.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, or a related field, or a Master's degree with 2+ years of experience.
  • Department of Defense Secret security clearance at time of hire.
