About the Role

MotherDuck is on a mission to radically transform the data analyst user experience by building a novel cloud architecture based on DuckDB. The team is responsible for infrastructure, CI/CD, monitoring, observability, and internal tools to support the development lifecycle. The role involves working in a hybrid environment, with a focus on building and maintaining scalable, reliable, and efficient cloud infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Design, implement, and manage scalable infrastructure using cloud-native technologies, primarily in AWS with plans for multi-cloud deployment
Maintain, troubleshoot, and continuously improve existing CI/CD pipelines to ensure seamless integration and deployment processes
Collaborate with development, security, and operations teams to implement best practices in automation, monitoring, and performance tuning
Manage infrastructure as code (IaC) using Terraform
Automate routine tasks to reduce manual effort and minimize downtime
Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high availability of services
Implement robust security practices and ensure compliance with industry standards
Assist with incident response and conduct post-mortem analysis to improve system reliability
Participate in on-call rotation staffed by engineers across development and operations teams

Requirements

Proven experience as a DevOps Engineer, Site Reliability Engineer, Systems Administrator, or related role
Experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Azure) and ability to quickly learn others
Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or CircleCI
Solid understanding of containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes
Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation
Experience with monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or similar
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong scripting skills in Python, Bash, or similar languages
Familiarity with security best practices, including IAM, VPC configurations, and data encryption
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment

Nice to Have

Experience with large-scale distributed systems, multi-region and multi-cloud environments
Experience with or interest in testing strategies
Knowledge of database systems and optimization
Experience building, maintaining, and supporting infrastructure tools and mission-critical systems
Experience working and collaborating with internal customers such as development or support teams

Experience in roles related to DevOps, SRE, or systems administration
