About the Role

The Chewy Vet Care team is looking for a dedicated Backend Software Engineer I in Boston, MA to help us deliver industry leading self-service tools to empower Pet Parents to access the highest quality of pet care available. In this role, you will develop platforms on Chewy.com related to Clinic discoverability, scheduling, access to medical records, and much more. You will engage in development, testing, and contribute to the growth and development of one of Chewy's fastest growing areas, always exploring innovative ideas to differentiate ourselves in the industry.

Key Responsibilities

Apply algorithms, data structures, and design patterns to produce efficient and performant code
Develop, extend, and debug code within the scope of their team's existing tools and services
Solve root causes of and solutions for bugs and production issues
Make meaningful contributions to the team's existing backend environment
Participate in on-call rotations and operational excellence

Requirements

Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or similar; or equivalent experience
1+ years of professional experience as Software Engineer
Proficiency in Java and Spring Boot, with experience building and scaling distributed systems or web services
Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git, GitHub, GitLab)
Knowledge of RESTful APIs
Familiarity with testing frameworks
Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Strong communication and collaboration abilities
Experience in an agile development environment, collaborating with application development and architecture teams

Nice to Have

Experience with JavaScript, React, Next.js or other modern front end frameworks for full stack development
Playwright experience / E2E Test Automation frameworks
Web application performance optimization
Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes
Familiarity with AWS
