About the Role

The Sr. Control Laws Engineer will be responsible for the technical development and realization of a control law model for the ACaMS program, supporting the design and development of next-generation Aero Engine Control Systems. The role involves providing technical leadership, coordinating with various engineering teams, and ensuring delivery of system requirements in a high-performance, safety-critical environment at Rolls-Royce, a company renowned for innovation and excellence in engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance to the control law development team and ensure that systems and software certification objectives are met at each technical gate
  • Develop and communicate requirements from the customer and the engine team, collaborating with Controls System and Software teams
  • Lead problem solving and risk assessment activities related to the project and assist in establishing high standards of technical capability, quality, and teamwork
  • Represent the Control Law team with the customer, including requirements, deliverables, and integration activities
  • Build and maintain a High Performance Culture across a diverse and talented team
  • Support planning and progress tracking for Earned Value Management with the Integrated Product Team Lead (IPTL)

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical or Computer Engineering with 2+ years of product development engineering experience, or a Master's degree, or a PhD in the same fields
  • Experience with requirements management
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

Nice to Have

  • 5+ years' experience in embedded safety critical software engineering and familiarity with Model based software design and simulation (Simulink or similar)
  • Control systems experience with development of verification and testing frameworks
  • Experience working in agile software development teams
  • Strong development experience with cross-functional teams
  • Experience with the design and development of control laws for embedded systems
  • Understanding of DO-178C, DO-331, DO-333, and ARP-4754 objectives for safety critical systems
  • Experience with model-based design and verification on multiple platforms (model integration, testing on emulators, hardware-in-the-loop testing)
  • Experience with full software development lifecycle (Design to release)
  • Ability to present technical data to senior engineers and management
