Sr. Product Development Specialist

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in formulation of pet products, including feed supplements and diets
• Develop products for U.S. and international markets according to regulations
• Substantiate product label claims based on literature and efficacy results
• Interact with manufacturers to provide formulation guidance and troubleshoot production processes
• Review formulas to ensure proper specifications are met
• Collaborate with Marketing to develop global products that meet label claims and satisfy customers
• Partner with Food Safety and Regulatory teams to ensure products are safe and compliant
• Create documentation to substantiate global product claims
• Participate in innovation activities by brainstorming and developing new product ideas
• Assist in managing integration activities for newly acquired brands
• Design stability study protocols and troubleshoot lab batches
• Lead stability studies and analyze data to determine shelf-life
• Maintain database of stability certificates
• Investigate consumer complaints and collaborate on corrective actions
• Partner with production and quality teams for manufacturing pilots and line trials
• Prepare samples for marketing and sales pitches
• Maintain testing requirements for claims substantiation
• Update laboratory Standard Operating Procedures
• Contribute to continuous improvement of NPD processes and interdepartmental relationships
• Prioritize resources to support Speed to Market initiatives

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of experience in product development or a laboratory setting
• Background in Chemistry, Biology, Food Sciences, Animal Sciences, or related fields preferred
• Knowledge of laboratory operations, equipment, and safety
• Critical thinking and analytical skills
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and creatively
• Multi-tasking and communication skills
• Ability to work well in a team and communicate effectively at all levels
• Proficiency in PC skills: Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Adobe

Nice to Have

• Experience with regulatory guidelines such as AAFCO and FDA
• Experience in pet product formulation and stability testing
