About the Role

The Sr Software Engineer - FMS/Communication Systems at Honeywell is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing advanced software solutions for avionics technologies, including Flight Management Systems (FMS) and Aircraft Datalink communications. The role involves working within the Communications, Navigation, and Surveillance (CN&S) organization to enhance real-time data exchange, improve flight operations, and support aviation connectivity innovations. The position offers an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge aerospace systems that impact safety, efficiency, and technological advancement in aviation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leverage expertise in software engineering to design, optimize, and implement robust, high-quality software solutions for Avionics FMS systems.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand and document requirements, translating them into actionable software specifications.
  • Engage in the full software development lifecycle through deployment for FMS Datalink systems, ensuring the software meets all functional and performance requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of software with existing systems.
  • Write efficient, maintainable code in programming languages like C/C++ and Python.
  • Decompose high-level systems requirements into software requirements.
  • Ensure the highest level of quality and customer satisfaction in software deliverables.
  • Create, maintain, and qualify software development and verification tools.
  • Stay abreast of technological advancements and integrate new practices into the development process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as computer science, software engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in software development for embedded products.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++ and Python.
  • Experience with embedded software development and real-time operating systems (RTOS) is valued.
  • Experience developing software for Flight Management (FMS), Data, Communications, or related aircraft applications is a plus.
  • Understanding of DO-178, RTCA, and ARINC industry standards is of value.
  • Strong understanding of requirements management systems like DOORS.
  • Knowledge of software lifecycle and certification aspects of software components.
  • Familiarity with version control systems such as Git or Bitbucket.

Nice to Have

  • Experience developing software for aerospace or safety-critical systems.
  • Knowledge of advanced algorithms and data analytics.
  • Ability to read and write specifications to create software requirements.

Qualifications
