About the Role

The Sr Software Engineer - FMS/Communication Systems at Honeywell is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing advanced software solutions for avionics technologies, specifically Flight Management Systems (FMS) and Aircraft Datalink Communications Systems. The role involves working within the Communications, Navigation, and Surveillance (CN&S) organization to enhance real-time data exchange between aircraft and ground systems, contributing to innovations in aviation connectivity and safety. The position offers the opportunity to impact the development of cutting-edge aerospace software and work on projects involving advanced algorithms, data analytics, and real-time systems in a collaborative, innovative environment.

Key Responsibilities

Leverage expertise in software engineering to design, optimize, and implement robust, high-quality software solutions for Avionics FMS systems.
Collaborate with stakeholders to understand and document requirements, translating them into actionable software specifications.
Engage in the full software development lifecycle through deployment for FMS Datalink systems, ensuring the software meets all functional and performance requirements.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of software with existing systems.
Write efficient, maintainable code in programming languages like C/C++ and Python.
Decompose high-level systems requirements into software requirements.
Ensure the highest level of quality and customer satisfaction in software deliverables.
Create, maintain, and qualify software development and verification tools.
Stay abreast of technological advancements and integrate new practices into the development process.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as computer science, software engineering, or a related field.
5+ years of experience in software development for embedded products.
Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++ and Python.
U.S. Person status due to compliance with U.S. export control laws.

Nice to Have

Familiarity with embedded software development and real-time operating systems (RTOS).
Experience developing software for Flight Management (FMS), Data, Communications, or related aircraft applications.
Experience in developing software for aerospace or safety-critical systems.
Understanding of DO-178, RTCA, and ARINC industry standards.
Strong understanding of requirements management systems like DOORS.
Knowledge of software lifecycle and certification aspects of software components.
Experience with version control systems such as Git or Bitbucket.
Knowledge of advanced algorithms and data analytics.

Qualifications

Educational background in a technical discipline such as computer science or software engineering.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in embedded software development.
Proficiency in C/C++ and Python programming languages.
