About the Role

The Senior Software Engineer, Tools and Platforms (Cortex) at Palo Alto Networks is responsible for building innovative tools and platforms that support R&D and DevOps teams. The role involves developing high-quality, maintainable, and scalable software to enhance productivity, streamline workflows, and support the operational needs of a growing infrastructure. The position is part of the Cortex DevOps Tooling team, which focuses on infrastructure, cost optimization, security, and orchestration across SaaS products like XDR, XSIAM, XPANSE, and XSOAR. Key Responsibilities

Write product or system development code
Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst best design practices
Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency)
Contribute to existing documentation
Provide operational support for tools and applications maintained by the Cortex DevOps Tooling team
Maintain and build resilient infrastructure focused on performance, security, and sound system design practices

Requirements

Graduate degree or equivalent practical experience in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent military experience
Proficiency with software development in one or more programming languages, with Python preferred
Experience developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems, networks, or with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture
Proficiency with any major Cloud Provider(s)
Experience with developing, deploying, and/or maintaining micro-services architecture with Kubernetes
Proficiency in code and system health diagnosis, resolution, and software test engineering

Nice to Have

Experience with developing, deploying, and maintaining micro-services architecture with Kubernetes
Proficiency in developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems, or networks

Qualifications

Educational background in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent military experience
