Over 90% of our users play games, spending a combined 1.5 billion hours playing thousands of unique titles on Discord each month. Discord plays a uniquely important role in the future of gaming. We are focused on making it easier and more fun for people to talk and hang out before, during, and after playing games. We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer focused on UI/UX & Animations on the Ads team to lead the creation of beautiful, intuitive user interfaces across Discord's web and mobile platforms and build engaging, user-forward ads products.

Key Responsibilities

Act as a technical leader and domain expert in crafting thoughtful solutions to design problems both independently and in collaboration with dedicated designers.
Bring interfaces to life with smooth animations and delightful interactions, translating design concepts into pixel-perfect, high-quality code.
Be a strategic partner with engineering, product, and cross-functional leadership in designing, developing, and scaling digital advertising features that drive revenue growth and enhance user engagement.
Own projects end to end - working with Product and other stakeholders to refine requirements, create technical designs and specs, implement changes, and see projects through to launch and maintenance.
Use technical expertise to raise the bar and empower the team to deliver high-quality results.
Mentor and guide the careers of engineers through coaching and supporting their technical skill development.

Requirements

Expertise in React and/or React Native.
Built complex applications in React and/or React Native and understand their ecosystems and libraries deeply.
Strong design sensibility with an eye for detail and passion for creating visually compelling interfaces.
Extensive knowledge of front-end performance optimizations and web accessibility standards like WCAG.
Experience with web performance and accessibility to ensure UI is fast and usable for everyone.
A growth mindset, viewing mistakes as learning opportunities and continuously challenging oneself and others.
Focus on impact, collaborating closely with product managers, designers, analysts, and engineers to define effective solutions.
A sense of ownership, operating autonomously and following through on commitments.
Love of mentorship, providing feedback and guidance on front-end architecture decisions and championing UI/UX quality.
7+ years of experience building rich, user-centric applications (web and/or mobile).

Nice to Have

Experience working on teams focused on growth, particularly in ads, revenue generation, or product monetization.
Strong track record of driving measurable impact through experimentation and data-driven decision making.
Demonstrated success in attracting new users, driving engagement, sustaining long-term retention, and optimizing monetization.

Qualifications

7+ years of experience building rich, user-centric applications (web and/or mobile).

Benefits & Perks

US base salary range of $248,000 - $279,000 plus equity and benefits.
