About the Role

Bolt is the fintech powerhouse democratizing commerce. With our Super App, we're building a universal shopper network that integrates seamless shopping, embedded finance, real-time payments, crypto wallets, and personalized agentic shopping experiences—all under one roof. As a Staff Backend Engineer on our Consumer Engineering team, you'll own scalable and resilient back-end components powering the Bolt Super App, leading the development of wallet infrastructure, managing stablecoins and crypto rails, and enabling intelligent shopping workflows.

Key Responsibilities

Design and implement backend services enabling universal wallet infrastructure, including multi-currency wallets, KYC/AML compliance, secure ledgering, and minting/burning stablecoins.
Develop crypto on-ramps/off-ramps, P2P transfers, and blockchain-routed settlement systems.
Build payment acquisition and routing systems for cards and crypto rails, including reconciliation and settlement.
Build distributed systems with 99.999% uptime and low latency.
Collaborate with banks, PSPs, stablecoin issuers, and blockchain node providers.
Lead architectural decisions spanning wallet, commerce, crypto, and agentic shopping services.
Integrate fraud detection, compliance, and risk scoring for both fiat and crypto transactions.
Partner with frontend, infrastructure, and data teams to enable richer, more intelligent shopping flows.
Mentor backend engineers and help define best practices for wallet and crypto services.

Requirements

8+ years of backend experience in Go, Java, Kotlin, Rust, or similar languages.
2+ years in Staff+ roles at a fintech or crypto startup.
Deep knowledge of payments and wallet infrastructure, including card networks, ISO 8583, PCI, and tokenization.
Experience designing ledger systems with consistency, reliability, and reconciliation.
Hands-on experience building crypto or stablecoin rails; blockchain integration is a plus.
Experience enabling 'agentic' shopping APIs for assisted or personalized purchase journeys.
Strong understanding of distributed systems, event-driven architecture, and microservices.

Nice to Have

Worked with PayFac, network-tokenization, or stablecoin protocols.
Familiar with KYC/AML workflows or blockchain compliance tools.
Built intelligent recommendation or agentic shopping logic.
Open-source contributions in crypto, payments, or commerce infrastructure.
