About the Role

X, the Moonshot Factory, is a diverse group of inventors and entrepreneurs dedicated to building and launching technologies that aim to improve the lives of millions, even billions, of people. Their goal is to achieve 10x impact on the world's most intractable problems through projects that combine research-level ambition with startup-like speed and agility. The team Bellwether operates at the intersection of machine learning, geospatial data, and pressing climate issues, focusing on severe weather phenomena such as wildfires. They develop tools and models that leverage earth observation insights to help industries and communities better understand and predict natural events, with some products already live with customers.

Key Responsibilities

Contributing as a hands-on engineer across all aspects of project development and deployment of applications.
Helping to execute key decisions on software architecture and features, balancing business needs and technology roadmap, including rapid prototyping and long-term solutions.
Creating and maintaining Google Cloud Platform-based infrastructure for software development and high-volume production systems.
Participating in the creation of new systems and processes to ensure high quality development, deployment, and maintenance of live applications in production environments.
Presenting findings to team members and stakeholders, and helping to set future development directions.

Requirements

Bachelor's of Science in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
3-5 years experience with parts of the machine learning development pipeline, including research, experimentation, and ML-ops.
Experience with backend tasks such as code development, security measures, troubleshooting, debugging, testing, and monitoring application performance.
Experience with one or more common software design patterns (e.g., Observer, Decorator, Visitor, Producer/Consumer).
Experience working on early-stage projects that transition into production environments.
Experience with open source tools such as Git, TensorFlow, Apache Beam/Dataflow, Google Compute Engine.
Proficiency in one or more general-purpose programming languages, including Python.
Ability to thrive in an Agile team environment, contributing to sprints and iterative development.

Nice to Have

Experience working with a wide variety of geospatial data.
Experience interfacing with customers.
Experience in Machine Learning Operations, scaling existing machine learning applications into production.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.

Benefits & Perks

US base salary range of $197,000 - $311,000 plus bonus, equity, and benefits.
Compensation details reflect base salary only; bonus, equity, and benefits are additional.
