About the Role

Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. In this role, you will work on a specific project critical to Google's needs, focusing on optimizing query processing and delivering analytical query performance. You will design, implement, and optimize core Columnar Engine features to improve query execution, efficiency, and performance. The position involves managing challenges related to datasets, query latency, and throughput, contributing to Google's cloud infrastructure and data storage solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Manage challenges of optimizing query processing and enabling users to perform queries on datasets.
Design, implement, and optimize core Columnar Engine features to improve query execution, efficiency, and performance.
Profile and optimize query performance, focusing on minimizing latency and maximizing throughput.
Debug and resolve issues related to the adoption of the AlloyDB's Columnar Engine.
Provide technical leadership on high-impact projects.
Develop an understanding of SQL and database query optimization techniques.
Identify, design, code, and deliver columnar features to reduce query latencies.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
8 years of experience in software development.
5 years of experience testing, and launching software products.
3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
Experience with software development in C++.
Experience designing, implementing, and operating infrastructure or distributed systems.

Nice to Have

Master's degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
8 years of experience with data structures/algorithms.
3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
3 years of experience working in an organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.
Experience with database internals and SQL.
Experience with designing, coding, and delivering query optimization features in databases.

Qualifications

Formal educational background including a Bachelor's degree or higher.
Proven experience in software development, system design, and database internals.

US base salary range of $197,000-$291,000 plus bonus, equity, and benefits.
