About the Role

The Senior Copywriter at Walmart is responsible for infusing storytelling with heart and humanity to help customers save money and live better. The role involves working within Walmart's dynamic marketing team to craft compelling copy across various channels, collaborating with creative partners, and supporting business goals through strategic and engaging content. The position is on-site at one of Walmart's hubs in Bentonville, AR; Hoboken, NJ; San Bruno, CA; or Los Angeles, CA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Compose copy that gets to the heart of who our customers are and inspire them, covering a range of topics, assets, and channel types.
  • Collaborate with and mentor copywriters, helping them improve skills and performance.
  • Gain a deep understanding of Walmart's brand principles, tone, voice, and style guides, applying that understanding to craft supportive copy.
  • Manage multiple copy projects independently on different timelines with varying complexity and importance.
  • Meet copy deadlines in coordination with project management, account management, and the creative team.
  • Prepare well-structured drafts that are on-brief, meet the 3 C's (Conversational, Captivating, Confident), and demonstrate research skills.
  • Collaborate with Design and other team members to develop creative solutions to meet business goals.
  • Translate strategic marketing initiatives into concise, compelling copy solutions using critical thinking skills.
  • Make edits following feedback from partners including marketers, editors, legal, and copy leadership.
  • Contribute to the evolution of the brand tone of voice and style guide.
  • Participate in project kick-offs and follow-up meetings, asking proactive questions and explaining creative choices.
  • Consider character limitations and design constraints when creating copy and partner with editors to resolve issues.
  • Ensure error-free copy, participate in QA phases, and conduct audits to identify errors.
  • Stay informed on industry, technology, and media trends related to retail and marketing, sharing knowledge with the team.
  • Cover copy projects for colleagues during PTO or sick days as needed.
  • Act as proxy for copy leadership in meetings and communications with partners.
  • Assist in creating and documenting processes and tools for the team.
  • Maintain a positive attitude, work autonomously, and adapt quickly to changing business needs.

Requirements

  • BA in Journalism, Creative Writing, Advertising, or related field and 5+ years of copywriting experience.
  • 3 years' experience copywriting for an e-commerce brand.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaborate closely.
  • Excellent proofreading skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to do what it takes to get the job done.
  • Ability to research and understand industry, product, and company information.
  • Strong communication skills to explain creative choices and work with partners.

Nice to Have

  • Content Management Systems experience.
  • Managing interactive projects in an online creative or digital field.
  • Experience working for or with creative agencies.
  • Proficiency in Design Software such as Adobe Creative Suite, including advanced functions like multi-layer masking and compositing.
  • A fantastic sense of humor.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Marketing, Creative Writing, Advertising, Fine Arts, or related field.
  • 1 year of experience in interactive design, editorial content management, or related field, OR 3 years of experience in the same fields.
