About the Role

Join our innovative and dynamic People Technology engineering team as a Principal Software Engineer. In this role, you'll play a crucial part in designing, developing, and implementing digital solutions that address mission-critical business challenges, supporting Walmart associates. Your projects will make a significant impact, be scalable, and drive Walmarts modernization efforts in the People Technology organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the adoption and integration of cutting-edge tools in AI, big data, microservices, and cloud platforms like Azure.
  • Champion a culture of continuous learning through internal tech communities and cross-team collaborations, guiding others while enhancing your own skills.
  • Architect solutions that impact over 2 million associates and hundreds of millions of customers worldwide.
  • Lead design thinking sessions, conduct code reviews, and provide technical mentorship to foster operational excellence and innovation.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, product managers, and software engineers, to deliver integrated AI solutions while driving strategic initiatives.

Requirements

  • At least 12+ years of relevant industry experience in building and scaling highly available systems.
  • Proven track record in designing and deploying scalable AI/ML solutions integrated with LLM in production environments.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python and familiarity with other languages such as Java or Scala.
  • Deep expertise in TensorFlow, PyTorch, Transformers, LangChain, LangGraph, etc.
  • Extensive experience with techniques such as prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and fine-tuning.
  • In-depth knowledge of cloud architecture and deployments, particularly with Azure offerings.
  • Experience with cloud storage, cloud security, and cloud migration.
  • Proficiency with Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, AWS CDK, and MLflow for deployment, monitoring, and CI/CD workflows.
  • Familiarity with front-end technologies like ReactJS.
  • Knowledge of big data technologies such as Apache Spark and Hadoop, and data pipelines.
  • Experience with RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and microservices architecture.
  • Understanding of DevOps practices and tools such as Jenkins, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, communication skills, and ability to lead in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to Have

  • Relevant certifications in AI/ML, cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP), or MLOps.
  • Active contributions to open-source projects or participation in tech communities.
  • Leadership experience in guiding and mentoring junior engineers and driving a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Option 2: 7 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Preferred: Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
