About the Role

Join our dynamic and forward-thinking People Technology engineering organization as our Senior Distinguished Engineer, where you'll be at the forefront of driving innovation, spearheading transformative projects and foundational improvements. We are seeking a sharp technical leader who can seamlessly bridge the gap between business requests and architecting the technical landscape to deliver. Your projects will have tremendous impact, be scalable, and at the center of modernization efforts in Walmart's People Technology organization. The Enterprise People Technology team supports the successful deployment and adoption of new People technology across the enterprise, impacting millions of associates globally. We strive to continuously improve people technology and products to help managers and associates focus on supporting customers and members. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the creation and maintenance of our technical architecture, aligning it with business goals and scalability requirements.
  • Architect complex software systems, ensuring performance, security, and scalability needs are met.
  • Provide hands-on technical guidance and mentorship to software engineers, fostering a culture of learning and innovation.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Product Management, UX/UI, Quality Assurance, and DevOps.
  • Establish and enforce coding standards, design patterns, and development best practices through thorough code reviews.
  • Stay at the forefront of technological advancements, conducting research to identify emerging tools and methodologies.
  • Collaborate with project managers to define project scopes, milestones, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with architectural goals.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, promoting open communication and collaboration.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in the design, development, and delivery of software products with a large user base.
  • Strong track record in an architect role with large-scale software development data-backed services and applications.
  • A clear vision for full stack architecture design and great communication skills to articulate that to all levels of stakeholders.
  • Excellent decision-making skills with the ability to balance conflicting interests in a complex and fast-paced environment.
  • Thorough understanding of distributed technologies, public cloud technologies, scalable platforms, ML-platforms, NLU, Generative AI, and Operational Excellence.
  • Strong skills in Data Modeling of a complex domain.
  • Experience working with geographically distributed teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 7 years' experience in software engineering or related area OR 9 years' experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice to Have

  • Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility best practices.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and guidelines for supporting an inclusive culture.

Qualifications

  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 7 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Option 2: 9 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
