About the Role

The Senior Manager, Data Science at Walmart is responsible for leading advanced analytics and machine learning initiatives to drive business insights and operational improvements. The role involves model assessment and validation, data visualization, understanding business context, developing and deploying analytical models, and guiding teams on technical and strategic solutions. Key Responsibilities

  • Model assessment and validation using techniques such as Chi square, ROC curve, root mean square error, and impact analysis of variables on model performance.
  • Generate graphical representations of data and model outcomes, design appropriate data visualizations, and communicate insights effectively to stakeholders.
  • Understand business context, develop recommendations, create business cases, and translate requirements into actionable projects.
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis, select features, and develop advanced statistical and machine learning models including neural networks, SVM, Random Forest, and Bayesian inference.
  • Deploy models to production, monitor their behavior, and adjust parameters based on scale and performance metrics.
  • Write and test code using languages such as SQL, Python, Java, C, and develop solutions aligned with business needs.
  • Analyze business problems, identify data sources, and develop data strategies to unlock data value and support decision-making.
  • Lead multiple projects, remove barriers, allocate resources, and measure progress to ensure successful execution.
  • Supervise and develop team members through mentoring, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Promote company policies, ethics, and a culture of respect, integrity, and inclusivity.
  • Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and digital transformation initiatives.
  • Support Walmart’s mission by delivering results that prioritize customer and member needs while maintaining high standards of excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 5 years' experience in an analytics-related role.
  • Or Master's degree in the same fields and 3 years' experience.
  • Or 7 years' experience in analytics or a related field.
  • Knowledge of model fit testing, tuning, validation techniques, and impact analysis.
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Python, R libraries (GGplot, Matplotlib, Ploty), Tableau, PowerBI.
  • Proficiency in statistical methods, advanced modeling techniques, and programming languages including R, Python, SQL, Java, C.
  • Understanding of machine learning algorithms, feature engineering, and model deployment.
  • Familiarity with big data analytics, automation techniques, and business domain understanding.
  • Experience with creating inclusive digital experiences and accessibility standards (preferred).
  • Supervisory experience (preferred).

Nice to Have

  • PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or Econometrics.
  • Experience with open source frameworks such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Torch.
  • Knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards and assistive technologies.
  • Experience in creating accessible digital products and services.

Qualifications

  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in relevant fields plus 5 years' experience.
  • Option 2: Master's degree in relevant fields plus 3 years' experience.
  • Option 3: 7 years' experience in analytics or related field.
