About the Role

The Digital Media Specialist will serve as the 'in-house reporter' for the Department of Housing and Community Development, producing compelling digital content to communicate the department's mission and activities. This position will lead social media strategy, monitor platforms, and create various written and visual content to promote the department's initiatives related to housing, neighborhood revitalization, energy efficiency, and community development. The role involves working within a dynamic team of communicators, graphic designers, and outreach members, contributing to meaningful change across Maryland.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce engaging social media and digital content including videos, photos, and graphics following strategies set by the Office of Public Affairs.
  • Serve as the primary storyteller for the agency, ensuring creative channels are utilized to reach audiences and promote the department's mission and successes.
  • Coordinate social media posts and content across programs and within the Office of Public Affairs.
  • Serve as a photographer/videographer for press events and process photos and videos from the field.
  • Assist with other communications tasks such as blog posts, newsletters, and briefing materials when assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Four years of administrative staff or professional work experience.
  • Experience with digital content production and processing, such as video editing and graphic design.
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Premiere, Canva, or similar programs.
  • Experience with developing and implementing social media content strategies.
  • Possession of a motor vehicle operator's license valid in Maryland if duties require operation of a motor vehicle.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with public relations activities, including photographing, videoing, or livestreaming events.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency, with substitutions possible for college degrees or military experience.
  • Substitution of 30 college credit hours per year of experience, or a Bachelor's or Master's degree in lieu of experience.
