About the Role

The Advanced Software Engineering Manager will direct and manage the software design, development, implementation, and support of engineering teams. The role involves leading engineering projects, engaging in technical design discussions, driving technical architecture, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions. The position also includes managing multiple initiatives, ensuring timely releases, and supporting strategic technology decisions, with a focus on innovation and industry trends.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage the software design, development, implementation, and support of software engineering teams.
  • Lead engineering projects and engage in technical design discussions to drive technical architecture.
  • Manage multiple initiatives and be accountable for delivering multiple releases on schedule with high quality standards.
  • Partner and collaborate with engineering peers, product management, product design, and third parties to prioritize deliverables and maximize value.
  • Hire, manage, assign, direct, and evaluate engineers and application system analysts, including writing performance reviews and providing feedback.
  • Present practical input for strategic technology decisions and synthesize complex problems into simple, reliable, and maintainable solutions.
  • Drive strategic alignment of system specifications, requirements, and project schedules.
  • Ensure systems performance and resolve production incidents, potentially requiring 24/7 coverage.
  • Support planning of business milestones with Product Management and contribute to technology and business roadmaps.
  • Monitor industry technologies and trends to improve technology agility, including Cloud Services, REST APIs, design patterns, BDD, TDD, CI/CD, version control, and environment releases.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis of critical issues to prevent recurrence and review/approve solutions.
  • Establish performance standards, procedures, regulatory compliance, and conduct ongoing performance audits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or foreign educational equivalent) in Computer Science or a closely related STEM field.
  • 5+ years of experience in administrative management of technical teams and/or extended staff.
  • 5+ years of experience in software or infrastructure development domain and principles, including design patterns and code structure.
  • 2+ years of experience in eCommerce, retail systems, or high transaction software solutions.
  • 2+ years of experience in at least 2 of the following tech disciplines: infrastructure & network design, application development, APIs, cloud, middleware, servers and storage, database management, and/or operations.
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
  • Experience with written, oral, and presentation/public speaking communication.
