The Platform and Systems Team within the Garage seeks an experienced MedTech System Architect or Medical Devices System Engineer to lead systems engineering for internal ventures, guiding ideas from research to prototype and MVP.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the system architecture for internal ventures, encompassing hardware and software components.
  • Evolve ideas into actionable experiments and enable rapid learning.
  • Design and build medical device system prototypes to demonstrate research viability and develop them into minimal viable products.
  • Distill complex requirements from diverse stakeholders into buildable systems.
  • Provide technical leadership across systems functions including mechanical, fluidics, optics, electronics, software, and cloud.
  • Make build versus buy decisions, select vendors, and set up supply chains.
  • Manage trade-offs in R&D investments to maximize impact.

Requirements

  • Experience bringing a medical device product to market.
  • Strong systems engineering leadership skills, comfortable working with ambiguity across diverse domains.
  • Excellent collaborative and communication skills for multidisciplinary teamwork.
  • Technical knowledge spanning mechanical, fluidics, electronics, and cloud software, with deep expertise in at least one area.
  • Familiarity with optical and/or RF sensing modalities and their signal chains and processing.
  • Experience deriving prototype or product requirements from clinician input.
  • Basic business acumen.
  • Master's degree or higher in an applicable discipline.
  • 10+ years of industry experience.
