About the Role

The AI Data Engineer (Data Engineer III) reports to the Manager of Data Engineering in support of MUSC's academic, research and healthcare missions. Under general supervision, the engineer joins a multidisciplinary team focused on advancing AI strategy and developing innovative solutions. The role involves working with emerging technologies and contributing to impactful applications in healthcare and research, with significant data engineering responsibilities including designing and maintaining scalable data pipelines, supporting data integration, and contributing to data infrastructure development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain scalable data pipelines to support AI development.
  • Ensure efficient data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support integration of diverse data sources.
  • Maintain data quality and contribute to the development of data infrastructure for AI and analytics initiatives.
  • Take a lead role in projects, participate in team and project meetings, and provide ideas to improve efficiency, design, and effectiveness of solutions.
  • Support the advancement of AI strategies through innovative data engineering solutions.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree and five years of directly related experience; or a high school diploma and seven years of directly related experience; or a master's degree and three years of directly related experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, project management, problem solving, and customer communication skills.
  • Expertise in learning new technologies, coding, and manipulating data for automated solutions.
  • Ability to design customer-oriented solutions and redesign processes for improved outcomes.
  • Organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to mentor junior staff.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with healthcare or research data environments.
  • Knowledge of emerging AI and data technologies.
