About the Role

Aimbridge Hospitality is actively recruiting for an Area Director of Sales to help lead our sales team at the Hyatt House Richmond Short Pump and Hyatt Place Richmond Arboretum. This is an on-property role with a team of three and overtime eligible. The role involves planning and managing the overall sales and marketing for a collection of 2-10 full service, premium select and/or independent branded hotels, with the responsibility to achieve occupancy and ADR growth to maximize revenue while meeting profit objectives. The individual will oversee operations of the hotel sales department, including direct sales, follow-up, sales administration, hiring, training, managing, and coaching, as well as managing sales and marketing budgets, forecasts, advertising, and business plans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all group, transient, and catering sales solicitations and bookings to maximize overall revenue.
  • Coordinate sales automation efforts, ensuring a region sales database is developed and managed for various email campaigns and customer solicitation efforts.
  • Develop, recommend, implement and manage the division's annual budget and the advertising, public relations marketing and sales plans and programs for the hotel.
  • Initiate and develop sales trips to key feeder markets / cities to identify accounts that can benefit revenue performance targets at all hotels within the cluster.
  • Proactively conduct outside sales calls, conduct sales tours and entertain clients.
  • Understand contract content and negotiate terms accordingly.
  • Develop and maintain market awareness to predict revenue opportunities and set proactive strategies.
  • Monitor production of top accounts and evaluate market trends.
  • Conduct on-property visits to hotels within the collection to assess sales leadership and adherence to standards.
  • Train hotel staff on recognizing and capitalizing on sales opportunities.
  • Manage Human Resources within the division, including hiring, training, developing, coaching, conducting performance reviews, resolving problems, and discipline.
  • Develop a full working knowledge of hotel operations and policies.
  • Maintain visibility in the local community and industry organizations.
  • Attend and/or conduct regular meetings and functions required by management.
  • Promote open communication across hotels and with marketing partners.
  • Travel weekly as required.
  • Act on behalf of the General Manager in their absence and perform other duties as requested.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of progressive hotel sales experience preferred, or a 4-year college degree with at least 2 years of related experience, or a 2-year college degree with at least 4 years of related experience.
  • Prior Director of Sales or National Sales experience selling major downtown markets is required.
  • Must have a valid driver's license in the applicable state.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills for negotiation and influence.
  • Thorough experience with professional selling skills: opening, probing, supporting, closing.
  • Strong analytical skills and strategic vision for sales deployment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and general computer knowledge.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong organization and presentation skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Requires advanced knowledge of sales, marketing, and hospitality principles and practices.
  • Ability to work well under stress and high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to understand and work with financial data and basic arithmetic functions.

  • Experience with sales automation tools and databases.
  • Experience in hospitality or related industries.

  • 4-year college degree preferred with relevant experience or equivalent experience as specified.
