About the Role

The New York Times is seeking an Associate Product Manager to join the Storytelling Mission, working closely with the newsroom to innovate across storytelling formats, surfaces, and experiences, and the tools that support them. The role involves supporting product development for editorial projects, partnering with editors, designers, engineers, and analysts to enhance how readers engage with journalism. This is a hybrid role based in New York City, reporting to a Senior Product Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Senior Product Manager in defining the roadmap by gathering requirements, authoring tickets, organizing the product backlog, communicating with partners, and triaging bugs and feedback.
  • Translate product ideas or editorial needs into clear, tangible tasks for engineering and design partners, and help maintain a prioritized backlog.
  • Participate in team ceremonies (stand-ups, planning, retrospectives, etc.) and promote a collaborative, inclusive, and mission-driven team culture.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with partners in Engineering, Design, Data, Project Management, Audience Insights, and the Newsroom.
  • Support the team in monitoring product performance, gathering qualitative and quantitative insights, and using findings to inform product iterations.
  • Demonstrate support and understanding of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to the mission of seeking the truth and helping people understand the world.

Requirements

  • At least one year of professional experience in a related field, such as engineering, editorial, operations, or consulting.
  • Experience using data to guide decision-making for project-based work.
  • Experience with delivery of projects within a set timeframe.

Nice to Have

  • Experience contributing to digital products, especially within the news/media industry.
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally with design, engineering, and product.
  • Familiarity with editorial format and publishing workflows.
  • Experience with video and other storytelling formats.

Qualifications

  • Experience with digital product development and cross-functional collaboration.

Benefits & Perks

  • The annual base pay range for this role is between $85,000-$95,000 USD.
