Job Description

About the Role

The Business Development Manager is responsible for the management of the program operations of the Traveling Exhibits and Sales division by advancing division strategies, developing external and internal relationships, market research and analysis, project development and management, and helping to develop and track budgets - including revenues and expenses. In addition, they are responsible for the promotion, sales, and touring of exhibits across North America. The Business Development Manager participates in the selection and development of new exhibitions, providing tour and marketing expertise, and serving as the client advocate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the program operations of the Traveling Exhibits and Sales division.
  • Advance division strategies and develop external and internal relationships.
  • Conduct market research and analysis.
  • Oversee project development and management.
  • Help develop and track budgets, including revenues and expenses.
  • Promote, sell, and coordinate touring of exhibits across North America.
  • Participate in the selection and development of new exhibitions.
  • Provide tour and marketing expertise.
  • Serve as the client advocate.

Requirements

  • Developed communication skills, with an emphasis on writing, interpretation, and presentation.
  • Ability to communicate complex and technical information in plain language.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, with an emphasis on estimating labor time and costs.
  • Strong research and writing proficiency for public and professional audiences.
  • Knowledge of the museum field and informal science education industry, including best practices, emerging trends, and partnership opportunities.
  • Four years of cumulative work experience with increasing responsibility, including product marketing experience.
  • Experience with client stewardship and managing product sales cycle from lead to close.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and talents.
  • Experience managing budgets and utilizing appropriate accounting or tracking systems.
  • Examples of effective utilization of tracking systems or tools.
  • Examples of effective time management and organization.

Qualifications

  • Experience with product marketing campaigns and strategies.
  • Experience with client stewardship and managing sales cycles.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse backgrounds and talents.
  • Experience managing budgets and utilizing tracking systems.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
