The Community Relations Representative promotes programs and develops community relationships for the funeral home, cemetery, crematory, or a combination of these facilities by actively participating in community service organizations, activities, and outreach programs. They develop and maintain relationships with client families, hospice agencies, local religious groups, geriatric service providers, educational institutions, hospice organizations, and other key community leaders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote brand awareness
  • Establish and maintain positive relations with local government agencies, law enforcement, hospitals, Chambers of Commerce, physicians groups, and local law firms
  • Acquire approved memberships and participate actively in selected community organizations
  • Communicate with management to ensure all company initiatives are followed and conveyed through community involvement
  • Present educational seminars, public speaking engagements, tours of funeral home and cemetery facilities in cooperation with a licensed funeral director
  • Determine and prioritize community involvement in senior citizen programs, school programs, church programs, and local activities
  • Network within the community to assist management in locating and recruiting potential candidates for employment
  • Control expenditures in line with budget and obtain management approval before disbursement
  • Respond to requests for funeral, cremation, and related information at the location or via telephone
  • Arrange public speaking engagements with local schools, colleges, and religious organizations
  • Occasionally assist with management and leadership of funeral, memorial, and other services or ceremonies as requested

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 3-5 years experience in Funeral Services Industry
  • Previous experience working in a community relations or event organizing role is preferred
  • Previous customer service and/or sales experience is required
  • Completion of a diploma training program at a college or technical school specializing in funeral service or mortuary science is an asset
  • Relationship building and management skills including above average communication skills
  • Knowledge of computer and some software
  • Problem solving skills
  • Ability to multi task and set priorities
  • Professional and team player
  • Sensitivity to challenges faced by grieving families
  • Ability to relate well with people of diverse backgrounds
  • High level of compassion and integrity

Nice to Have

  • Completion of a diploma training program at a college or technical school specializing in funeral service or mortuary science
