The Data Center Technician II assists in the operational integrity, security, and regulatory compliance of the data center, with a focus on routine operations, customer build-outs, and responding to facility needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage building service requests through resolution.
  • Perform and complete work orders and customer service tickets in a timely manner.
  • Manage remote hands and work order completion processes.
  • Mine cables without disrupting existing services in the facility.
  • Participate in infrastructure projects including internal and customer cage and cabinet build-outs, overhead installations, and rack and stack activities.
  • Navigate and utilize a CMMS system and follow developed procedures to solve problems.
  • Assist in asset and consumable inventory management and ensure proper labeling of all equipment.
  • Ensure processes are completed in a timely manner according to Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and upload data to internal systems.
  • Monitor and respond to abnormal conditions in mechanical, electrical, fire protection, telecom, and security systems.
  • Follow directions from senior technicians regarding daily activities.
  • Provide physical security within the premises and respond to security alarms and breaches.
  • Escalate incidents and prepare report documentation.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and support on a daily basis.
  • Conduct regular facility and security tours, documenting and responding to issues.
  • Manage loading dock shipping and receiving operations.
  • Assist in system management to prevent unplanned outages.
  • Adhere to CoreSite’s Principles of Operational Excellence and culture.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of telecommunications and data center operating procedures.
  • Skills in security operations, troubleshooting, and first responder duties.
  • Knowledge of fire watch, safety protocols, and causality response.
  • Understanding of basic telecom best practices, data center architecture, copper and fiber installation, transmission methods and media, electrical theory.
  • Experience with customer service and customer interaction.
  • Ability to manage building systems including mechanical, electrical, security, and telecom equipment.
  • Familiarity with cable termination, testing, and infrastructure build-outs.
  • Proficiency in using a CMMS system and following established procedures.
  • Ability to monitor and respond to facility system alarms and abnormal conditions.
  • Good communication skills for incident escalation and report writing.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks such as cable mining, rack and stack, and security tours.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with managing security hardware and CCTV systems.
  • Knowledge of transformers, PLCs, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, PDU's, chilled water systems, CRAC/CRAH, and sprinkler systems.
  • Experience working in a data center environment during swing shifts.
