About the Role

This exciting opportunity as a Data Engineer - Engineering Operations & Portfolio is responsible for consolidating and reporting business data from disparate sources to support new & existing analytical solutions. The successful candidate will join the Engineering, Technology, & Safety (ET&S) Engineering Operations Management (EOM) team and work on data management activities using the EOM toolset ecosystem with the goal of automation and digital connectivity to the rest of the business. This is a small, agile, and fast-moving team with the goal to digitally transform the larger business via the improvement & automation of Engineering Operations activities including: people data, strategic workforce planning, program resource demand, allocation of resources, managed service providers, and business metrics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect and report specific business data requests within the EOM software ecosystem & PowerBI dashboards.
  • Integrate with the internal Software development organization to build new tools for automation of regular data requests and improve existing tools to improve efficiency and accuracy of data reporting.
  • Own the tools and processes the business uses for outsourcing, intercompany transfers, & load/capacity planning and become the Indianapolis single point of contact for technical and business leadership to execute these tasks and/or report data from these tasks across the ET&S organization.
  • Capability improvements for data collection and reporting through process improvement, tool/software development, and automation.
  • Keep up with industry best practices, new libraries, and tools in the backend/frontend ecosystem and bring that learning to bear on Rolls-Royce projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or another field.
  • Demonstrated experience in data analysis and visualization in collaboration with a team.
  • Experience with modern data analysis, scripting, and visualization tools such as PowerApps, PowerBI, and Python.
  • Demonstrated experience with end-to-end data processing across a diverse array of systems in disparate formats.
  • This position is based in Indianapolis, US and the individual must be a US citizen to view US defense sensitive data. Remote working may be permissible with occasional travel to Indianapolis, US for a suitably qualified US citizen.

Nice to Have

  • Demonstrated expertise building PowerBI dashboards and/or PowerApps and in data transformations (Python, etc) to feed data to those tools.
  • Familiarity in JavaScript/TypeScript and basic understanding of web development fundamentals (HTML, CSS, Debugging Tools, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience in developing software applications and collaborating with a software team.
  • Awareness of and experience with modern software practices (git version control, GitHub/GitLab/other source code managers, VSCode or other IDEs, Docker and Containerization, Cloud Native / Service-Based Architectures, DevOps Methods, CI/CD Pipelines, Agile Practices, Observability & Monitoring, etc.)
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Comfort with ambiguity - able to define and implement plans that achieve business value without detailed instructions.
  • Advocate of High-Performance Culture and positive change.
