Job Description

About the Role

The Data Scientist in the Research and Development (R&D) group at Align works closely with cross-functional teams including IT, software, marketing, clinical, and operations. This individual will work on Align's digital clinical database to develop and deliver data-driven insights, metrics, and recommendations to support product development and innovation in orthodontics with the Invisalign product.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply advanced data analytics to derive insights from production data and clinical studies and contribute to product development projects
  • Work on full-stack data analysis: defining problems, data collection through SQL queries, data cleaning and wrangling, exploratory and confirmatory analyses, data visualization, and storytelling
  • Construct technical hypotheses, perform statistical analyses, and interpret analysis results to support data-driven decision making for product development
  • Identify key insights from analytical results, prepare well-documented reports and presentations, and share findings with internal and external stakeholders
  • Collaborate and work independently in the design, analysis, and interpretation of prospective and retrospective clinical studies
  • Participate in reviewing and updating bench-top testing methodologies, including experimental design and statistical significance of results in support of the product research team
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of Invisalign products and operational procedures
  • Provide product and clinical analytics expertise within the R&D group, including product engineering, materials, software, and clinical research teams
  • Build effective working relationships with management and connect with diverse cross-functional teams locally and globally
  • Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment to meet critical deadlines and adapt to priority changes

Requirements

  • Experience applying advanced data analytics to derive insights from complex datasets
  • Proficiency in full-stack data analysis including SQL, data cleaning, visualization, and statistical analysis
  • Ability to construct hypotheses, perform statistical tests, and interpret results
  • Strong communication skills to prepare reports and presentations for stakeholders
  • Experience working on clinical studies and understanding of experimental design
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced environment
