About the Role

The City of Chicago is seeking a Data Scientist responsible for analyzing and managing data related to criminal justice, policing, or public policy. Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and manage data related to criminal justice, policing, or public policy.

  • Manage and utilize databases and database software.
  • Apply data science techniques to support city initiatives and decision-making.
  • Summarize quantitative and qualitative data through written reports.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Technology/Systems, or a related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience in data analysis or data management.
  • Experience creating, managing, or using databases and database software.
  • Experience in statistical analysis and modeling.
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data in written form.
  • Experience creating data visualizations.
  • Proficiency with data management tools such as R, Tableau, Python, SPSS, or SQL.
  • Knowledge of applied data science in criminal justice, policing, or public policy.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak fluently in a language other than English.

Nice to Have

  • Master's degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Previous professional experience working with data management tools such as R, Tableau, Python, SPSS, or SQL.
  • Knowledge of data science applications in criminal justice, policing, or public policy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Three (3) years of relevant experience.
