About the Role

The Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) is a fast-growing government service provider that supports various industry-recognized government entities. The organization is designated as Native Hawaiian Organization (NHO)-owned and 8(a) certified, with a mission to benefit the youth of Hawaii through charitable efforts, including educational programs that focus on leadership, science & technology, and environmental stewardship. The role involves providing support for a government customer in Dayton, OH, possibly remotely, as a Data Scientist responsible for developing and deploying machine learning models and ensuring data security and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, deploy, and tune novel unsupervised tree-based clustering machine learning models.
Accurately describe how several classes of algorithms work, including decision trees, and be able to code them from scratch.
Explain the difference between density-based and binning-based clustering methods.
Explain and implement the k-nearest neighbors algorithm from scratch, including optimized versions if naive implementation is not available.
Write an optimized list sorting algorithm from scratch within a limited time frame.
Generate a distance matrix and demonstrate minimizing its size through vectorized code.
Obtain HIPAA training and maintain HIPAA standards to prevent data leaks.

Requirements

Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in an applied quantitative field.
At least three (3) years of experience deploying predictive analytics.
Experience with Python and object-oriented programming.
Experience with data manipulation tools in Python such as Numpy and Pandas.
Experience with plotting in Python, e.g., Matplotlib.
Experience with Sci-Kit Learn and open-source machine learning software in Python.
Willingness to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA).
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Must pass a Tier 1 background check (T1)/SF85 and be eligible for a CAC card.

Nice to Have

Experience working with software engineers to develop dashboards for AI interaction.
Experience developing with pre-trained language models.
Experience with dimensionality reduction techniques.
Experience with TensorFlow, PyTorch, or other GPU-enabled deep learning libraries.
Experience working with USAFSAM.
Familiarity with human biology.
Familiarity with human performance.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in an applied quantitative field.
Minimum of three (3) years' experience deploying predictive analytics.
