Job Description

About the Role

The Data Scientist will provide technical and professional support to the United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM) Aerospace Medicine Consultation Division, specifically to support clinical and operational data analysis. The position involves developing machine learning models, explaining algorithm functionalities, and working within a HIPAA-compliant environment. This role is contingent upon bid award and offers the possibility of 100% remote work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, deploy, and tune novel unsupervised tree-based clustering machine learning models.
  • Accurately describe how several classes of algorithms work.
  • Explain exactly how a decision tree works, and be able to code it from scratch.
  • Explain the difference between density-based and binning-based clustering.
  • Explain how the k-nearest neighbors algorithm works and implement it from scratch in code.
  • Write an optimized list sorting algorithm from scratch in less than an hour without external resources.
  • Demonstrate the ability to generate and minimize the size of a distance matrix using vectorized code.
  • Obtain HIPAA training and maintain HIPAA standards to prevent data leaks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Applied Quantitative field, such as Computer Science, Actuarial Science, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, or Economics.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience deploying predictive analytics.
  • Experience with Python and object-oriented programming.
  • Experience with data manipulation tools within Python, such as Numpy and Pandas.
  • Experience with plotting in Python, such as Matplotlib.
  • Experience with Sci-Kit Learn and open-source machine learning software in Python.
  • Ability to work with software engineers to develop dashboards for AI interaction.
  • Ability to develop with pre-trained language models.
  • Experience with dimensionality reduction techniques.
  • Experience with TensorFlow, Pytorch, or other GPU-enabled deep learning libraries.
  • Experience working with USAFSAM is preferred.
  • Familiarity with human biology and human performance is preferred.

Nice to Have

  • Experience developing with pre-trained language models.
  • Experience with dimensionality reduction techniques.
  • Experience with TensorFlow, Pytorch, or other GPU-enabled deep learning libraries.
  • Experience working with USAFSAM.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Applied Quantitative field or related discipline.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in predictive analytics.

Benefits & Perks

  • Estimated salary range of USD $78,000.00 per year up to USD $116,000.00 per year.
