Job Description

About the Role

The Data Scientist II role at The Trade Desk involves identifying relationships in data related to consumer behavior, developing predictive models using machine learning and statistical methods, and translating these insights into actionable outputs to improve client outcomes. The position requires working with large datasets, developing new mathematical formalisms, and communicating findings effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify relationships in data regarding consumer behavior and leverage those relationships to improve prediction models.
  • Utilize outputs of competing models and algorithms to predict user behavior and determine the highest performing methods.
  • Work with multiple large data sets, including proprietary TTD and client data, which may be partial or unreliable.
  • Develop new mathematical equations and formalisms relating proprietary data to client goals.
  • Apply Machine Learning/Deep Learning models to predict consumer behavior and real-time bidding auction outcomes.
  • Develop statistical methods and translate them into computer code that runs in customer-facing or customer-impacting parts of TTD's software.
  • Test software components for performance, especially those applying statistical methods.
  • Check data for inaccuracies and apply weights to make data more representative.
  • Process datasets up to hundreds of terabytes to generate features for predictive models.
  • Develop statistical analyses or models and communicate results to business stakeholders.
  • Select and recommend statistical methods based on business needs.
  • Analyze historical data to identify patterns useful for predicting future consumer behavior.
  • Present analysis results and model performance to stakeholders, ensuring effective communication across technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Mathematics, or related field with five (5) years of experience, or Master's degree with three (3) years of experience.
  • Three (3) years of experience with Python, Spark, SQL, and PySpark.
  • Three (3) years of end-to-end experience with Machine Learning projects.
  • Two (2) years of experience with TensorFlow or PyTorch.
  • One (1) year of experience with Scala.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with developing and deploying machine learning models in production environments.
  • Knowledge of real-time bidding auction systems.
  • Experience working with large-scale datasets and distributed computing frameworks.

Qualifications

  • Educational background in Statistics, Biostatistics, Mathematics, or related field as specified in requirements.

Benefits & Perks

  • Comprehensive healthcare (medical, dental, and vision) with premiums paid in full for employees and dependents.
  • Retirement benefits such as a 401k plan and company match.
  • Short and long-term disability coverage.
  • Basic life insurance.
  • Well-being benefits and reimbursement for certain tuition expenses.
  • Parental leave and sick time of 1 hour per 30 hours worked.
  • Vacation time up to 120 hours in the first year and 160 hours thereafter.
  • Approximately 13 paid holidays per year.
  • Employee stock purchase plan with discounted stock options.
