Job Description

About the Role

The DevOps Engineer II will be responsible for designing and implementing cloud network architecture, remediating security findings, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize platforms and tooling for speed, usability, and reliability. This role involves working closely with development, security, and operations teams to ensure scalable, secure, and compliant infrastructure in a hybrid work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to ensuring the platform aligns with PCI, OWASP, and ISO 27001 compliance by executing processes and recommending improvements.
  • Participate in the configuration, tuning, and troubleshooting of WAF and reverse proxy infrastructure (NGINX), with occasional guidance from senior staff.
  • Independently administer and improve the Linux environment, including routine patching, user management, and performance monitoring.
  • Develop and maintain Terraform scripts to provision and manage infrastructure, ensuring alignment with architectural standards and participating in peer reviews.
  • Collaborate with development teams to deliver solutions that are reliable, flexible, scalable, and provide low-cost ownership.
  • Take ownership of specific components within the CI/CD pipeline, improving automation, monitoring, and reliability.
  • Contribute to the design and rollout of CI/CD pipeline enhancements, including integrating new tools or refining existing stages.
  • Author, update, and review technical documentation related to processes and specifications.
  • Implement containerized solutions using Docker and Kubernetes, applying best practices in orchestration and basic security.
  • Participate in on-call rotation to provide after-hours support.
  • May perform additional functions depending on market demand and staffing to ensure consistent quality customer service.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; additional, applicable years of experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in DevOps or relevant experience in IT and SysOps.
  • Solid production experience with advanced AWS networking architectures, including VPC peering, Transit Gateway, and Site-to-Site VPN.
  • Strong knowledge of AWS networking services, including VPC, subnets, route tables, security groups, NAT gateways, and load balancers (ALB/NLB).
  • Experience managing Kubernetes workloads on AWS EKS, including cluster provisioning, node group management, Helm chart deployments, and troubleshooting containerized applications.
  • Proficient in managing container images using AWS ECR, including secure image storage, lifecycle policies, and CI/CD integration.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining robust CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions (or similar tools like GitLab CI/CD and Jenkins).
  • Troubleshooting skills in CI/CD workflows, including resolving build or deployment errors and improving pipeline reliability.
  • Working knowledge of object-oriented programming and scripting languages, especially JavaScript or TypeScript; Python knowledge is a plus.
  • Proficient Bash scripting skills for automation and operational routines; familiarity with Python is advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of Git, including advanced branching strategies, pull request workflows, and conflict resolution.
  • Familiarity with rollback strategies like feature toggles or canary releases.
  • Exposure to Go (Golang) for building CLI tools or backend services.
  • Experience with network security controls and WAF technologies, including AWS WAF and Alert Logic WAF.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication with vendors, customers, and staff.
  • Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and ask questions to meet goals.
  • Ability to learn new software and technologies quickly.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines with limited supervision.
  • Attention to detail with high accuracy and strong organizational skills.

Nice to Have

  • AWS Solution Architect or Practitioner certification.
  • Experience as SQL/NoSQL admin.
