About the Role

The DevOps Engineer III will be responsible for designing and implementing cloud network architecture, ensuring security compliance, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize platforms and tooling for speed, usability, and reliability. This role involves leading initiatives in infrastructure, security, automation, and operational excellence within a hybrid work environment, primarily focusing on AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and security controls.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take a proactive role in ensuring platform compliance with PCI, OWASP, and ISO 27001 standards. Lead audits, implement necessary controls, and drive continuous improvement in compliance processes.
  • Provide strategic guidance and leadership for the configuration, optimization, and maintenance of WAF and reverse proxy infrastructure (NGINX). Define and enforce best practices, mentor junior team members, and lead initiatives to enhance security posture.
  • Administer and maintain the Linux environment at an advanced level, including complex troubleshooting, performance tuning, and proactive capacity planning. Mentor and support junior team members in Linux administration tasks.
  • Design and implement highly scalable infrastructure solutions using Terraform IaC, ensuring adherence to architectural standards and industry best practices. Lead architectural reviews and ensure scalability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of solutions.
  • Collaborate with development teams to deliver solutions that are reliable, flexible, scalable, and provide low-cost ownership.
  • Assume full responsibility for the design, implementation, and operational excellence of critical components within CI/CD pipelines. Drive automation, efficiency improvements, and integration of advanced monitoring and security practices.
  • Drive the strategic adoption of containerization and orchestration technologies like Docker and Kubernetes. Define and enforce best practices for container security, orchestration, and lifecycle management across the organization.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing support of CI/CD pipelines.
  • Author, update, and review comprehensive technical documentation related to processes, architectures, and specifications. Promote knowledge sharing and mentorship within the team.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders, including developers, QA engineers, and project managers, to understand requirements and deliver solutions that meet business needs.
  • Participate in on-call rotation to provide after-hours support. Provide escalation support for critical incidents, demonstrating advanced troubleshooting skills and ensuring timely resolution of issues.
  • May perform additional functions depending on market demand and staffing to provide consistent quality customer service.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; additional, applicable years of experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in DevOps or relevant experience in IT and SysOps.
  • Extensive production experience with advanced AWS networking architectures, including VPC peering, Transit Gateway, and Site-to-Site VPN.
  • Deep understanding of AWS networking services, including VPC, subnets, route tables, security groups, NAT gateways, and load balancers (ALB/NLB).
  • Hands-on experience managing Kubernetes workloads on AWS EKS, including cluster provisioning, node management, Helm chart deployments, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficient in managing container images using AWS ECR, including secure storage, lifecycle policies, and CI/CD integration.
  • Extensive experience designing, implementing, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, or Jenkins.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in CI/CD workflows, including root cause analysis and optimization of build times.
  • Proficient in scripting languages such as Bash, with knowledge of Python as an advantage.
  • Expert-level proficiency with Git, including advanced branching strategies and pull request workflows.
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes for managing containerized environments.
  • Experience implementing rollback strategies, including blue-green and canary deployments, and CI/CD automation.
  • Hands-on experience with Go (Golang) for building CLI tools, automation, or backend services.
  • Experience with network security controls and WAF technologies, including AWS WAF and Alert Logic WAF.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication with vendors, customers, and team members.
  • Self-motivated learner with the ability to adapt quickly and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines with limited supervision.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

Nice to Have

  • AWS Solution Architect or Practitioner certification.
  • Experience as SQL/NoSQL administrator.
