About the Role

The City and Borough of Juneau is launching a new Communications & Engagement Division, and we are seeking a creative, organized, and entrepreneurial Digital Content Specialist to become a founding member of our team. The successful applicant will develop and coordinate content creation with different departments, assist with new digital tools, lead email marketing efforts, curate the City's social media presence, and develop digital channels—including a new CBJ website—to enhance public outreach and participation. This role is integral to fostering civic participation and enhancing the visibility and accessibility of city government through consistent, clear, engaging, and inclusive communications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create, manage, and optimize dynamic, engaging, and accessible digital multimedia content such as graphics, videos, and interactive tools that align with the City's priorities of transparency and accessibility.
  • Conduct timely storytelling through video and social content, monitor online engagement, analyze metrics, and refine content strategies to enhance public outreach and participation.
  • Design, produce, and manage content for the new CBJ website.
  • Coordinate and assemble the City's digital content pipeline, including social media content management, email newsletters, and website news updates.
  • Collaborate with city departments to ensure consistent messaging and timely dissemination of important information.

Requirements

  • Understanding and/or experience with principles, practices, and methods of digital engagement and communications techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and managing a dynamic social media presence.
  • Proven graphic design and content creation skills.
  • Capacity for clear and efficient communication of information and ideas through different communication channels.
  • Experience tracking community engagement, growth, and measuring effectiveness of communication strategies.
  • Ability to facilitate proactive coordination with other divisions, departments, and outside agencies.
  • Management of time and resources efficiently to complete work tasks under demanding and competing deadlines.
  • Understanding of website content creation and organization best practices.
  • Proficient use of computer equipment and software specific to the responsibilities of the position.
  • Ability to adapt effectively to changes, adjust behavior to evolving circumstances, and embrace new ideas and diverse perspectives.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with digital tools and platforms for content management.
  • Experience supporting or documenting public meetings or events outside of regular hours.

Qualifications

  • Relevant work samples demonstrating video, social media, web, email, or graphic design work.
  • A cover letter is required for application.

Benefits & Perks

  • Work hours Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, with some evenings required for public meetings or events.
  • Office located at City Hall in downtown Juneau.
