About the Role

The Digital Executive Producer is responsible for the daily management and training of web producers, reporters, and social media producers in a local newsroom. They oversee and improve the digital editorial content packaging across the Nexstar network to increase user interactivity and traffic, particularly among in-DMA users. The role requires an audience expert capable of growing distribution platforms and creating high-performing content, with flexibility to work across multiple websites based on regional needs.

Key Responsibilities

Attends local editorial meetings and serves as bridge between broadcast and digital in local newsroom
Trains, coaches, and manages team of local digital journalists
Writes engaging headlines that increase pageviews and packages content to grow pageviews per visitor and time on site
Works with web producers to ensure a steady stream of interesting, interactive content is packaged and promoted to generate reader interest
Evaluates website traffic trends to inform daily content decisions and long-term content development aimed at increasing in-DMA traffic
Leads team members responsible for planning and implementing special coverage projects such as severe weather, breaking news, and enterprise digital content databases
Monitors major news websites, local and state news sites, blogs, and social media for breaking news and trending topics
Promotes news content on social media

Requirements

5 years of experience gathering or producing news and information with 3 years of experience working primarily on the web
Experience building online databases (investigative, elections, weather, etc.)
Knowledge of SEO best practices and AP Style
Organized, technical problem solver and quick decision maker
Enjoys working in teams and has excellent interpersonal skills
Ease with/ability to learn new technology independently and quickly
Ability to take direction and quickly implement new ideas
Comfortable adapting to industry changes and thriving under pressure
Self-motivated with a competitive spirit and assertive personality capable of balancing multiple projects and priorities
Schedule flexibility including nights and weekends
Strong understanding of Google Analytics; Chartbeat experience is a plus
Proficiency in MS Office; HTML, CSS, and Photoshop experience are a plus
